The
Schutz Brothers' story begins in the 1930's when Don Schutz, at the tender age of
14, purchased a 55 acre farm from his father. He started raising horses and named
his new home Crescent Stud Farm. In his late teens, he began cutting leather on
a borrowed billiard table to create his own bridles, halters and reins. His fascination
in working with leather grew and led to the sale of his prized Arabian stallion,
Indraff, for $10,000 in 1946 to provide the finances to begin Schutz Brothers.

Don's brother, Dick joined him in the new venture, a combination tack and gun
store. The first Schutz Brother's sign was posted near a converted milk
house/tool and implement shed on the farm.

On weekends, the brothers would fill their station wagon with tack and open booths
at local fairs and horse shows. Little did they know that their passion for leather
craft and simple beginnings would lead to an international wholesale saddlery business
and a way of life for generations to come. Don's love of horses and
appreciation for fine leather has been passed through family and remains alive
today, some 75 years later.
Don's son, Mitch & Mitch's wife Penny are at the
helm to carry on the tradition. In their time away from "the shop" the Schutzes
have fun spending time together with their daughter, Brogan (pictured throughout the catalog) and their horses. Mitch enjoys riding and showing his reining horse.
Brogan competes with her quarter horse in all-around events, garnering multiple top tens at the AQHYA World Show and Quarter Horse Congress.
Horses truly are a way of life for the Schutz family and they are dedicated to using their knowledge and experience to craft the best products for you. Don's legacy of uncompromising dedication to integrity, service and quality products will remain unchanged.
